Welcome to Driftwood Outdoors

How is the ranch managed now?

Driftwood Outdoors manages the Baggett ranch which is 10,000 acres which has been lightly hunted by family members for the past 17 years under a strict management program. In 2008 Driftwood Outdoors began outfitting the ranch under the same strict management program set forth by the ranch owner. We feel we can provide better quality experience for our hunters this way.

How do we hunt the ranch?

We hunt the ranch many different ways. A lot depends on what the deer are doing and what the hunter feels comfortable with. We have permanent blinds near feeders, and we have ground blinds and tripods to go after deer that are not coming to feeders. We also build brush blinds and make use of Ameristep blinds to get a chance at a particular buck. We also rattle and stalk. Basically whatever it takes to get the harvest as long as it is safe and legal. We assign one guide to two hunters. We guide hunts to try and insure that the hunter has the best experience that he can and to insure that we are managing our herd to produce the finest whitetails.

What kind of deer herd do you have?

We feel we have a top quality deer herd here on the ranch. The majority of our bucks taken will make P&Y class. We have an abundance of eight and ten points 130" to 140" buck son the ranch. We also have a few 150" class animals; these animals are very difficult to harvest. Our goal is to increase this number by lowering the hunting pressures that force large deer to go nocturnal. We implemented a protein program on the ranch in March of 2008 for our deer herd. We do not think you will be disappointed with the quality of our deer herd.

What are the chances of harvesting a Whitetail deer?

All of our rifle hunters should have an opportunity to take a shot at a quality buck. Some of hunters will not shoot for reasons of their own. We will also have hunters that miss. We estimate that the success rate for all hunters will be in the 90% range.

What about processing and taxidermy?

In addition to complimtary field dressing and cold storage of your trophies, Driftwood Outdoors can recommend In addition to complimtary field dressing and cold storage of your trophies, Driftwood Outdoors can recommend excellent taxidermists in the area. If you plan to depart on a commercial airline with your game, check with your airline to determine the rules for checking ice chests as luggage. Since 9/11 many of the rules have changed. Driftwood Outdoors highly recommends that you take all your game with you, however, if you do not take your game, we will distribute to local charities, friends, or other groups who will benefit. We do not condone, nor do we allow, harvesting of animals without the intention of consumption or mounting the animal.

What would be appropriate hunting attire?

Texas has a wide range of temperature variability during the winter months. Beginning in November and into March is prepared for cold weather particularly in the evenings, nights, and early mornings. Warm clothes and thermals are essentials. A medium insulated or down jacket is appropriate. Include warm socks, gloves, and a scarf. Otherwise regular camouflage hunting clothes, hiking boots with ankle supports and a hat. We have been known to have unseasonably warm days so lighter clothing is also recommended. Casual clothes for dinner. In Texas and with Driftwood Outdoors Hunter Orange is not required during the hunt.

What kind of accommodations do you have?

For our trophy hunts, we only plan to house 4-6 hunters at one time. These numbers will allow us to keep the hunting pressure on the ranch low on a week to week basis. The lodge is a 30 X 30 building with a kitchen and a common washroom. The lodge will sleep 6 guests at one time.
We are in the process of constructing a new lodge for the 2009 season that will accommodate our guests with private rooms and washrooms as well as a separate dinning lounging area.

Welcome to Our New Website
Oct 23, 2008 in Web News

On October 8-12, 2008 Driftwood Outdoors hosted Team Realtree member (Roger Culpepper) and Team Tony Stewart member (Jody Doles). This was the first ever Driftwood Outdoors bow hunt. Roger struck pay dirt early in his hunt by harvesting a great 10pt on video that scored 155 1/8 using his Bear bow. Not to be outdone by Roger, just 1 day later Jody's arrow flew straight as he harvested a great 10pt on video as well with his PSE bow. To view pictures of the hunt stop by the Driftwood Outdoors website. Thanks for stopping by and stop back in soon we will be updating the website with pictures of our future hunts.
